There were hints of ground peeking out from the snow in spots, but no open pastures with green grass for calves to romp in yet.
Romping Calves
Climbing the hills and rocks would definitely be more fun than hiking through the snow drifts. The snow, with the thawing, rain and re-freezing, feels as hard as rocks when you fall.
I don’t know if I could climb to the top but a young fox had no problem getting to the top to look down at me.

This Eastern Screech Owl didn’t appreciated the cold, snowy Easter either as it was trying to nap in the bouncing tree branch. I would have been seasick the way the branch was swaying but the owl seemed to manage to nap and would only open its eyes if I hooted loud enough.
But this owl normally sleeps in the day and emerges from its roost at dusk to hunt insects and other small prey. The Eastern Screech-Owl’s color ranges from gray to brown to reddish. The chicks in a nest may be different colors.

This morning there has been a war on between me and the squirrels. I have a half dozen gray squirrels raiding the bird feeders and they aren’t scared of my cat or me. Now if they would have been busy last fall putting their nuts in the hollow tree like this red squirrel did instead of burying the acorns all over my lawn that they can’t find now under the deep snow, they wouldn’t have to stealing my bird seed!
Squirrel War
When clearing a heavy snowfall, sometimes it is hard to figure out where the driveway is so today I could actually see some lawn after the melting yesterday since I cleared some snow off the lawn instead of the driveway. But the lawn is brown and no green showing. Sometimes it is even hard to find green on a old rusty tractor and you have to search to find it.
