This weekend was Wisconsin’s Free Fishing and Free State Park event so many parks and fishing spots were filled with extra people. And some wandered into the water and cooled off in the falls as they enjoyed the warmer temperatures.

On this warm weekend day, some visitors to the Dalles of the St. Croix River area may have been doing some rock climbing in the deep basalt gorge, which has walls as high as 250 feet above the water. The rock formation in the center looks like the toy robot in the “Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots” old game that originally came out in 1964.

My body was not used to today’s warm temperature but I know others probably enjoyed the warm sunshine for outdoor activities like fishing and boating.
On the Water
The bleeding hearts lasted most of May but have mostly faded now that June has arrived. Other flowers were enjoying the rare sunshine and warm temperatures.

For such a little bird, barely bigger than an apple blossom, the house wren has a loud voice that carries a distance. And they let me know with their scolding they are not happy with me when I get too close to their nest.

Among the rainy days, hints of late spring and early summer are still trying to emerge from the gray and display some color in the yard.

Many people visited cemeteries or memorials today to honor and remember the people who died while serving in the armed forces. The local American Legion Post visited and presented a program at the cemeteries in my area. So hopefully people remembered the real reason for today’s holiday – that it isn’t just a day off to have fun, but that people gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms.

On this holiday weekend, some people have headed to campgrounds and park to kick off the summer vacation season. Some may have to deal with rain on their outing and these glacial potholes in Interstate State Park may fill with even more water.

The evening temperature was finally more seasonal and the frogs were singing up a chorus down by the pond. Even the tree frogs were adding their voices to the nature’s concert. I don’t if my tree frog was one of the performers or not, since I didn’t put a tracking device on him when I released him either.
