Well March didn’t really come in like a lion or lamb and it went out in the middle too. There was no snow but the temperatures never got above freezing and the wind made it feel cooler yet.

Today was 30 degrees colder than yesterday so it didn’t feel very warm outside especially with the wind blowing, but hopefully later in the week will be warmer so I can get the bird houses cleaned up before the bluebirds return. The female is checking up on the male bluebird to see if he is picking out a good house for her.

The very strong winds today brought more limbs down and the few remaining oak leaves from last fall were having trouble hanging on.

A Sunday walk through the woods did not reveal any wildflowers poking up or blossoming, but there was a small patch of blue from some Siberian Squill, which is an ornamental from Eurasia and now is an invasive species here.

The ducks are returning as this morning I had a pair of mallard, a pair of wood ducks and a pair of hooded merganser on my pond at the same time. Although this evening I only saw the mallards while some deer grazed along the edge.

The last two days have been rather wet with all the rain and my pond is overflowing, but yesterday there was a brief rainbow. The early season rainbow looked similar to this late fall rainbow when the trees are still bare.

I have only seen a single robin in two different spots and not a large flock back yet. But one of the robins have been snowed on at least once, but maybe I didn’t see it earlier and that it has snowed three times already on the robin’s tail.

A pair of geese have been hanging around my pond, but while I like seeing some activity around my place, I rather not have them stay as they are rather messy and I don’t want to scare off my wood ducks.
