The shining sun was able melt some snow as the temperature briefly reached 40 degrees. The melting caused some puddles which the birds enjoyed having a bird bath again. And there were even larger puddles for bigger feet to splash in.

The recent snow made it harder for the critters to find their stash of food under the white layer, but this rabbit decided to look up and nibble on my shrub instead.

The recent winter storm dropped 20 to 30 inches of snow along Wisconsin’s south shore of Lake Superior, but it also blew the ice around which created large cracks where the ice was forming. And with the poor ice conditions, it looks like there will be another year where visitors will not be able walk on the lake ice to visit the various ice formations and caves.

The air was filled with ice crystals that acts like prisms which allowed the morning sky to display a sundog.

The half of foot of snow weighted the tree limbs until the wind blew and lightened the load.

The new snow covered up most of the hints of green from the pine trees and the only color was when a cardinal landed on the snow laden branches waiting his turn at the bird feeder.

The day started out cloudy but at least the snow storm stayed to the north most of day and waited until this evening to drop some snowflakes from the sky.

Taking a winter walk on a Sunday afternoon might have been the activity for some today since the temperature finally got above freezing and even 40 for a few hours. The packed trail will likely be covered over and hidden in the new snow predicted for the next two days.

Maybe the warmer colors of the sunset tonight is the reason the temperature is raising instead of falling. Hopefully it will get above freezing tomorrow like the forecast predicts.
