Haying equipment could be seen in the fields today, but the hay rakes today have a different look than this old dump rake. The working era of the dump rake started in the 1840s but as side rakes and then wheel rakes were invented, the dump rake usefulness faded with time. But once in a while you might spot a bit of history in its sunset years.
An Old Hay Dump Rake
On June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution stating the design of the flag. In 1885, Bernard Cigrand, a small-town Wisconsin teacher, held the first recognized formal observance of Flag Day at Stony Hill School in Waubeka and is credited with being the “Father of Flag Day” and President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed June 14 as Flag Day in 1916.
