The honey bees have to sneak out and visit the blossoms into between the rain showers lately and hopefully they will have enough honey stored before winter arrives.

The native flower, Turtlehead, named because of the blossom’s lips look like a turtle’s beak, but to me the flower could be called Bumblebee flower instead as if you look closely, you might see a bumblebee squeezing into a blossom or backing out of one. Bumblebees are one of the few insects strong enough to push open the mouth and wiggle past the stamen that acts like a roadblock to reach the nectar.

The other day I rescued a butterfly that was trapped in the garage as it was flying against the window glass instead of going out through the open door. I didn’t recognize the butterfly and I didn’t stop to take a picture as I didn’t want it to damage its wings while hitting the glass. This Milbert’s Tortoiseshell has a bit of damage to one of its wings, but I don’t know what caused the damage as it wasn’t the butterfly rescued.
