The ice is slowly breaking up as the warm winter temperatures continue most days. This side branch of the Amnicon River feeds the Snake Pit Falls farther downstream.
I have been on Lake Superior ice a few times, but I wouldn’t walk on this ice with open water like some people were doing. The water is rather chilly if I would break through the ice even if the water is not real deep by shore.
Although Valentine’s Day originated as a Christian feast day honoring a martyr named Valentine, the day now has a romantic theme between sweethearts. But there is also another type of love between dog and man.
I imagine more of the ice has melted in the week since I visited Lost Creek Falls because the temperatures have still been unseasonable warm this winter.
