After a very long stretch of gray days, the sun brighten the landscape for a few hours before the clouds rolled back in before the predicted snow.

Listening to music today looks a lot different (and smaller) than this old Edison Home Phonograph which was invented by Thomas Edison. Although Edison hadn’t intended the machine for music, when the machine was marketed in 1878, recording music became the most popular use and four minutes could be recorded on the wax cylinders.

It is a treat to be able to take a walk in the woods in January without snow covering the ground, although the people who like winter recreation activities may be disappointed by the lack of that cold white stuff, but I like not having to shovel.

There were a few snowflakes falling in the morning, but not enough to stick on the ground which means no shoveling snow, but I know that won’t last for long.

These sheep are able to graze in the pasture in January, even if the grass is brown from the freezing temperatures, as there is no snow yet. And with the temperature reaching 30 today, they might not need their real heavy wool coats. Although they will need it by the end of the 10 day forecast with the predicted below zero temperatures and even cooler wind chills.
