Picture of the Day for March 22, 2020

A light coating of snow this morning did not close this pretty old chapel. Sometime snow storms may prevent a service but this Hyde Chapel, which was built in 1861, closed in 1957 and now only used for special events. But many more churches were closed this Sunday, not because of snow or declining membership, but because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Since those dang robins haven’t returned yet, the snow today was wasted and that means at least three more snows before spring. The ground was white again but I rather see whitewashed driftwood instead, like this unique piece with the hole letting other color through it. It was sort of like the sunset tonight with only a small slit in the clouds for the peek of color.

Weather folklore says, “Spring will finally arrive after three snows on a robin’s tail.” Some people in the area have spotted some robins back, but I haven’t yet so I don’t know if the saying counts if it snows on a killdeer tail instead since the killdeers have returned.  I rather not wait for the arrival of the robins if it snows this coming week and it doesn’t count towards the number of snowfalls needed on a robin’s tail.
