The sunshine and blossoming flowers brought more butterflies to the yard, like these Great Spangled Fritillaries, which are found in Wisconsin from late June through early September.

On August 7, 1789, the United States Congress approved an act for the “establishment and support of Lighthouse, Beacons, Buoys, and Public Piers.” It was two hundred years later that Congress designated August 7 as National Lighthouse Day which honors the beacon of lights found across America’s shorelines which for hundreds of years symbolized the safety for ships at sea.

The summer butterflies are attracted to the rose pink star shaped blossoms of the Dragon’s Blood Sedum. But as the cooler weather of fall arrives, the pink flowers will turn more red and the foliage turns a bronze red too. And since deer leave them alone, it is probably a groundcover that I should plant at my place.
