The leprechauns would have been doing unplanned Irish jig on my cement as it was covered in ice this morning. It wasn’t a sunny, green day with lots of shamrocks to be found even though the ice melted after a while. Moss seems to be the only green outside right now and it can make a pretty green scene where it grows in the mist of a waterfall.

This evening I saw my cat come racing to the porch like something had spooked him and I discovered he was getting hit by ice pellets. The ice continued to fall for a while making a noise as it hit the glass windows. These windows would not have stopped the freezing rain as the glass has been missing for a long time. The image is actually taken through two windows looking out into Lake Michigan. The lighter color, larger stones are the outside of the building and the smaller, darker bricks are the inside of the wall across the room of the large historic company store at Fayette Historic State Park.

A few days ago, Tippy, the star of my children’s book died. Every cat has a different personality and I think Tippy’s was warped from birth when a dog carried her around in its mouth. She wanted to be close to me, but not cuddly even though I bottled fed her when she was only eight days old. She didn’t like it when I was gone overnight or if I locked her out of the den so I could work in peace and she showed her displeasure by pooping in my bathroom sink!

You never know when an extra critter might show up in the house, like my tree frog hitching a ride inside from the flower pot, but today the extra critter was found on the porch at the farm. And on this cold March day, the calf was enjoying the warm sunshine through the window inside as he waited for a helping hand from my mom with a bottle of milk. Sometimes the extra ‘guest’ may be in the bathroom, the tub or sink, getting thawed out on cold winter day.

I took a walk around outside, in an attempt to look for any mail which might have blown out of my mailbox from the windy days since it was blowing the door open, but there wasn’t too much activity happening in the field. With the pond still covered with ice, there are no wood ducks hanging around the pond, even though most of the snow is gone, at least temporarily.
