Picture of the Day for February 15, 2017

When I was hiking through the trees on my way to take a picture of the sunset, I heard a noise and I spotted an uninvited squatter in my wood duck house. Apparently this squirrel has made a himself quite at home in my duck box and it is probably the same critter that figured out how to get to my bird feeder and eat my seed too. He will be evicted before the ducks return as I am denying his squatters rights!

There are many valentine images that show two swans together with their necks forming an outline of a heart. And while that loving image might match some couples, I have a feeling some guys are in the doghouse this St. Valentine’s Day, the ones who didn’t come up with the proper gift for the sweetheart. Like the guy who buys a piece of farm or shop equipment and think his wife will just ‘love’ it like he does.

My roof was dripping water from the melting snow but it wasn’t like a waterfall yet since it was only 40 and shaded but maybe this weekend it will melt more and frozen steams could start flowing again. This little waterfall in the Porcupine Mountains is often bypassed in search of taller and bigger falls, but it is a cute little treasure.

Two hundred and eight years ago, Abraham Lincoln was born in a one-room log cabin on the Sinking Spring Farm in Kentucky. That cabin was reported to be approximately 16 by 18 and the replica in Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park is 12 by 17. This cabin in northern Michigan has a different design and maybe a little more room for a family plus it has more windows to let daylight in.
