The falling and blowing snow this evening made it hard to see the road. Even a cloudy day on a beach listening to white waves rolling in is better than listen the snow pelleting my vehicle.

The birds were enjoying an above freezing morning as they picked at the Black-eyed Susan dried flower heads eating seeds. The flower stems bent under the weight of the birds as the junco, goldfinch and redpoll consumed their breakfast.

It was supposed to be warmer today, according to the forecast, but the strong winds kept it chilly and the temperature didn’t get into the low 20s until after dark. During the day, you probably wanted to take a winter hike in a ravine than in an open area to stay out of the wind.

Finding unique and interesting pieces of driftwood on a beach provides fun entertainment as I look for the sea monster in each piece. In the winter, spotting ice monsters is fun too, but it is a chilly and colder activity.

Today was another frigid February day with below zero temperatures, but the sunshine and calm winds lessened winter’s bite.

That dang rodent saw his shadow this morning so will be a long winter. And after another full day with below zero wind chills, I wanted a shorter winter. Although Jimmy the Groundhog in the southern part of the state didn’t see his shadow so Jimmy will have an earlier spring, but then he lives farther south.

The wind was whipping the snow around making it slither across the road and adding ice crystals in the air. By evening some clouds were forming as the sun was setting over an old farmstead with a silo on the first day of February.
