Even though this shed is old, it still would provide some protection from today’s cold winds and the snow that is supposed to fall later this evening.

Another sunny day that started and ended with very cold temperatures and without reaching zero during the afternoon so these icicles were not in danger of melting today even in the sunshine.

The moon has been lighting up the snow at night, but it always seems like the days around the full moon are always too chilly for a moonlight stroll. The sunny day was chilly too so the some of the birds might want to check out the birdhouses for some protection from the cold wind chills.

The critters were out moving around today with the temperature finally above freezing with some sunshine in the afternoon. I saw several different flocks of turkeys, even one flock crossing the road and heading into a cemetery while another flock was foraging in field.

Today was another cloudy winter day below freezing and it would be nice to see a little more color outside. These bright, cheery flowers were taken on July 17 and six months later, just the brown seed heads remain poking up through the snow.

There was only a light dusting of snow today, where the snow could be swept off the cement instead of needing to shovel it.

It was another deceiving winter day as the sun was out but the temperature was cold. Even the birds were fluffing up their feathers as they waited in line for the bird feeder. Birds fluff up in cold weather to create pockets of warm air next to their bodies. The technical term for fluffing up is ptiloerection.

While there were some people who enjoyed the new coating of snow today, others including this cat, were a little less pleased to have to go out in it or shovel the snow.

It can be hard to find much green color around here in the winter, as even the pine trees seem dull, but once in a while instead of a red barn there is a green one on the farm landscape.

It seems like the deer have been more active around my house lately instead of down by the pond as I noticed them at my basement door and eating dried flower heads. With the ground covered in snow, finding something to eat isn’t as easy as during summertime fill with green grass and leaves.
