This afternoon was 50 degrees warmer than yesterday morning, but it was still below freezing. But the warmer temperatures has me dreaming of beaches not covered by snow and ice.

On Saturday, 34 fisherman were stranded on a piece of ice that cracked and separated away from the rest ice near shore. They had to be rescued from the floating ice as it floating farther out into Lake Michigan. I wouldn’t be fishing on the ice since the ice changes frequently on big bodies of water as this image from Lake Superior was a solid sheet one minute, fractured a while later and after a few more hours, the ice floated out of view.

There was a flock of turkeys crossing the road and going down my driveway when I was trying to pull in so I had to wait for them. The group split up and some ending up wading through drifts into the trees while others stayed on the driveway longer before trudging a path through the snow.

It has been a rollercoaster of temperatures with 30 degrees yesterday afternoon but already below zero tonight. And then colder yet tomorrow night but back in the upper 20s on Saturday. The ups and downs of the changing temperature would be more bearable if it was in the 60s and not -20. This road might make a great sledding hill in the winter but I prefer the autumn rollercoaster road instead.

The above normal temperature this afternoon felt nice, but it was still below freezing so unlikely to be walking on the beach in shorts or wading into the water since there is already ice forming on Lake Superior. And more likely to see snowflakes in the sky and not rainbows this cloudy day.

It is amazing when 20 degrees feels warm, but considering that 20 above zero is 40 degrees warmer than the minus 20 yesterday morning, it is a bit of a heat wave. But still not above freezing to melt any snow so the scene at the Amnicon Lower Falls would have white from snow on the rocks instead of just the white from the water foam.
