The New Year started out with some sunshine, but it was a cold day as the temperature never climbed above zero and the wind made it feel like -25. And tonight will be even colder.

The few hours of morning sunshine still wasn’t enough to melt the ice off the tree limbs and the ice probably will stay for several more days as the frigid air remains.

Sometimes it is hard to walk in deep loose sand, but at least normally it is warmer when walking on a sandy beach than walking in deep snow in below zero temperatures like today.

A new coat of snow fell today, which covered the icy spots, so now it is very tricky when trying to walk outside.

The new snow that fell overnight was coated in a thick layer of ice. The ground looked like a great big ice skating rink. And the icy tree limbs were catching the glow from the late afternoon sun.

Now that Christmas Day is over and it wasn’t a real white one, I wouldn’t mind if it got warm and green again with blooming flowers. But instead the forecast is calling for 3 to 5 inches of snow with blowing snow and even some freezing rain so it will be months before flowers begin to bloom again.

Last Christmas had a wintery look, but this year with the recent rains that melted much of the snow and exposed some grassy spots so it was more of a brown Christmas instead of a white one.

The rain and above freezing temperatures today removed the white decorations from the trees so Christmas morning might not be so white, but the weather changes frequently and the forecast has some white snow decoration coming later in the day.

Since today finally was above freezing, I took a walk down around my pond looking at all the critter tracks. There was a variety of tracks but no bear tracks and the pond that the bear went swimming in six months ago is now frozen.
