The sunshine today helped melt some of the snow off the tree branches, but the snow was still deep to walk through it.

The hoarfrost might not have adhered to the pine trees compared to the other trees the other morning, but snow from last night piled on the pine branches. The limbs were weighted down from the 14 inches of that white stuff and you didn’t want to be standing under one of those branches when the wind dislodged the snow.

This pretty white flower would be buried under a thick blanket of snow if it was still blooming today. But instead these tiny blossoms were found in June when the daylight was long and the days were warmer.

I preferred yesterday’s frosty flakes than the ice and snow today. These hoarfrost flakes were larger than other times and had wonderful patterns when viewed up close.

A frigid night with temperature below zero dawned into a very frosty morning. The frosty flakes sparkled in the chilly sunlight.

Some of these freighters are in the docks for repairs as well as a brand new self-unloading bulk carrier for Great Lakes is being built at the Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. And while the scene here is fairly quiet, even with the construction noise, 80 years ago the scene at a different harbor was not peaceful when the surprised attack happened at Pearl Harbor. And as President Franklin D. Roosevelt said, December 7, 1941—a date which will live in infamy.

It was a good thing these birds have headed south for the winter already because otherwise there would have been a lot of aborted landings with the very strong wind gusts overnight and during this morning.

Although outside the barn has changed scenes with snow covering the grass, but the inside the old barn would provide some protection against the strong gusty winds. This gray barn does have a new metal roof so maybe the snow will slide off of it.
