According to the calendar, it is the first day of autumn and as the coming weeks change the tree foliage to fall colors, more people will be heading out on an autumn drive to enjoy the colorful foliage before the trees lose their leaves.
A fall blooming wildflower, the turtlehead flowers attract bumblebees, who are strong enough to push the lips of the blossom open enough to squeeze inside for the nectar.
With the way the wind has been blowing the last couple of times, I would be too chicken to go out on this commercial fishing boat on Lake Superior. I would stick to the shore and watch the waves rolling in and not feeling them on the water.
It was a great day to spend a Sunday afternoon at a beach, with temperatures in the upper 80s, picking up pretty rocks and wading in the waves. Today might be the last near 90 degree day for the rest of the year as the week’s forecast is calling for highs in the 60s instead.
I always enjoy visiting a waterfall and once in a while I am lucky to be present when the sun angle and wind speed are just right to create a rainbow in the mist from the falling water.
Many of the different variety of butterflies seem to be scarce this summer but there have some monarch butterflies around. And also some that mimics the monarch, like the Viceroy which is smaller and has the extra black line on the hindwings.
