Like children, kittens like to play on fences and even the mother cat joined in on the fun playtime balancing on the thin board edge as others tried to knock them off.

My walk on the beach today had a different feel because most of the sand was frozen and I barely left a shoe print as I walked along until I got to where the waves were coming in. Plus I wasn’t able to pick up some of the pretty rocks since they too were frozen to the ground. With the warmer waves today, the snow and ice pack melted back but snow will eventually cover the beach again for the winter.

This bald eagle landed in a tree along the shore of Lake Superior. It scanned the area for a snack as it preened its feathers before eventually taking flight again.

Apparently this bear decided that it hadn’t stored enough winter fat after a second day of below zero wind chills and had to come out of hibernation for an additional snack tonight.

With the temperatures dropping to single digit overnight and only warming a few degrees by noon, the frost patterns still were clinging to door window glass. I like how they seem to grow in all different shapes.

This morning I had a different feathered visitor in my duck house. Apparently an owl didn’t like the snow but liked the shelter the duck house provided. The owl perched in the opening for about 4 hours, starting a few hours before sunrise watching for a snack. Then it napped until after sunset before leaving the box and I wonder if it will return tomorrow morning after a night of hunting.

I saw a single goose flying north that was honking up a storm. I figured it must have overslept and the rest of the flock took off and left it behind. I wonder if it every caught up to it group or not and it wouldn’t have been able to rest in my pond since it was already frozen over.

I found a dandelion on the lawn today that was mostly closed up and wilted from the overnight very chilly temperature of 10. I was going to pick it and bring it inside so it could finish blooming but it had no stem that I could put in a vase as it was hugging close to the ground. It probably will be April before a hint of seeing another dandelion.

This group of tom turkeys apparently felt safe that they wouldn’t become the main guest at the Thanksgiving meal since they wandered into the yard this Thanksgiving morning.
