After the storms moved through yesterday, the bee and ant enjoyed the sunny and drier day as they gathered on the milkweed blossoms.

Mother Nature continued with its own version of fireworks for the 4th and many firework displays were cancelled or cut short when additional thunderstorms redeveloped.

Some communities have their firework display scheduled for tonight, but nature provided its own fireworks in the form of lightning as the thunderstorms arrived this afternoon with much needed rain, although with the dry, hard ground a lot of the rain probably ran off without soaking in. There was wind and hail too and just as the storm was ending, the power went out. But a rainbow also appeared in the sky as the storm moved away.

A half mile trail downstream from the High Falls on the Baptism River is the Two Step Falls and this is the upper step of that waterfall. And on a hot Sunday, it would feel nice to wade in the water between the two steps of the waterfall.

With the number of campers and RVs on the road the last couple of days, I’m sure the parks will be full during the holiday weekend. By taking a long hike, you can visit the 100 foot drop High Falls of the Baptism River is in Minnesota’s Tettegouche State Park.

The Tiger Swallowtail and a bee were enjoying the lilac blossoms for the nectar, which is also one of the host plants that the tiger swallow caterpillar utilizes.

When I was driving back from an appointment today, I noticed a couple of old wooden barns which have fallen and collapsed recently. The wooden barn as disappearing from the landscape so it was nice to see this old barn get a new coat of paint and a new roof.

There was dry area under the Horton Covered Bridge so that you walk underneath it when normally the channel is filled with rushing water of the Amnicon River.

On my walk over towards the Upper Falls on the Amnicon River, there was some wild roses blooming adding patches of pink here and there.

Last Monday I visited Amnicon Falls State Park, which has four waterfalls, including the one called Now and Then. And the dry conditions also existed to the north as it is the first time that I seen the Now and Then Falls completely dry. This waterfall is fed by a crack in the basalt rock from the main river when the water level is high enough. One of my relatives called it Once in a While, which is fitting this very dry June.
