Just like children, the batch of kittens at the farm were outside last night trying to catch the snowflakes coming down. But besides catching snowflakes, they were also chasing each other and running under my vehicle and when the majority of the kittens are black and it was dark out, that doesn’t make for the the best combination. It is much easier to spot black kittens in the daylight on the white snow.

In the middle of a very long barn wall, a barn door allowed its owner passage for years. Now the door and barn is feeling its age much like the weary farmer but I wonder what stories it could tell. Did it have a barn warming party after it was first built? Did it host a barn dance? How many critters did the barn shelter over the years.

The scarecrow looks happy and it is probably because he was spreading flowers on a summer day. For me, seeing flowers would be a treat after today’s very cold temperatures.

Some winter sunsets can be pretty but they are also often very cold and the camera battery doesn’t last long in the colder temperatures (and sometimes the photographer doesn’t stay outside in the cold either).

While most corn is combined these days, there are still some farmers who pick the corn to feed ground cob corn to steers and each fall it is a gamble with the weather waiting for the corn to dry down to a moisture level which the corn can be stored in a crib and before the snow gets too deep to get in the fields with the corn picker. On wet years, sometimes they have to wait until the ground freezes so they don’t bury the tractor and equipment in the fields.
The mature cob corn might not be very appealing to us who want the nice juicy sweet corn in the summer, but the critters like this corn including the squirrels and birds that also eat on the corn in the crib.

The temperature for yesterday’s Thanksgiving was the coldest since 1930. I sure would have rather be looking at the ice caves yesterday if it was going to be that cold instead of snowing snow in the very chilly air.

It looks like this turkey is trying to sneak quietly through the woods to avoid being the main course at someone’s Thanksgiving dinner.

While I prefer sunny days, a cloudy autumn day (especially a warm day) is much better than a cloudy winter day (especially a cold day with several inches of snow predicted)!

The sun might be out today but it is not peeking through bright, colorful leaves as there are only a few brown oak and apple leaves left on the trees and it is not a warm sunshine either. Course I only have to wait another 10 to 11 months before seeing the autumn leaves again.

Water can exist in three phases (solid, liquid and gas) and found in different locations (in the air, on the surface or below the ground). Well I’m not overly happy watching water falling in the form of snow blowing pass my window this morning. I much rather see the water falling in the form of a river and waterfall instead!
