When you see a wildflower with yellow blossoms in the spring, you wonder why it is named Bluebead, but when late summer comes, the name makes sense. One of the other common name for the plant is Yellow Bluebead Lily and that name might be more fitting as it would have the yellow from the spring blooms and the blue colored balls in summer.

A carpet of yellow black-eyed susans is a sure sign of summer, although towards the end of summer where as the daisies signal the start of summer.

One of today’s celebrations is National Lighthouse Day. On August 7, 1789, the United States Congress approved an act securing the protection of all lighthouses under federal support and was signed by President George Washington. I wasn’t near any lighthouses today, so I will just have to look at pictures, like Eagle Harbor Lighthouse in Michigan which was built in 1871, to enjoy the Lighthouse Day.

Next Thursday is the end of the dog days of summer, so maybe the weather will cool down as the summer has been a hot one. Even this puppy probably wants the dog days to come to an end.

Twenty years ago today, my cat Dutch was born and while he is no longer living, he was one those cats that leaves a lasting memory. He reminded me of the Simon’s Cat cartoon trying to wake his master up. When Dutch woke in the morning, he wanted you up and would turn on my clock radio (which the on button was the tenth of the size of the off button). And when that didn’t work, he would go out to the kitchen and start throwing stuff off the counter.

With the hot temperatures today, spending time on the cool waters of Lake Superior might be a way to get some relief, but I would be too chicken to take this little boat out the big lake.

The main blooming season for the lupines is long over, but once in a while you might find a late blossom that catches your eye even if it is not in full bloom yet.

Being out on the waters of Lake Superior on a warm Sunday summer day would feel colder, but I’m not sure I would trust having someone on the paddle board with me because if they wiggled too much, I probably would fall off and the frigid waters would be too refreshing for me.
