The Horton Covered Bridge spans 55 feet across the Amnicon River just at the start of the fifteen foot drop of the Lower Amnicon Falls.

When I sneak up to Lake Superior, sometimes I stop at Amnicon Falls on my way. I have visited the falls in November but never when there is snow and ice on the ground. I probably wouldn’t wander as close to the cliff edge if icy like I did to take this photo of the lower falls and the Horton covered bridge.

It is amazing when 20 degrees feels warm, but considering that 20 above zero is 40 degrees warmer than the minus 20 yesterday morning, it is a bit of a heat wave. But still not above freezing to melt any snow so the scene at the Amnicon Lower Falls would have white from snow on the rocks instead of just the white from the water foam.

Although the trees are still bare, but with signs of new leaves budding out, it is a nice spring day to enjoy a walk through the woods or near a river as the birds are singing a happy tune today. The hike could include walk across a covered bridge like the one found in Amnicon Falls State Park.
