The apple blossoms are winding down for the season although some later varieties still have blossoms for the house wren to enjoy the scent.

The orioles have been frequent visitors to my sugar water feeders, but they also spend time in the apple trees eating insects and nectar from the blossoms.

The sun may be shining on the apple blossoms today, but with the rainy days and the the temperature getting down to freezing the other night, it will interesting to see how many apples there will be on the trees this season.

So far this spring the bluebirds seem to be down in numbers as I have only seen a few this year. Hopefully more have returned but I just haven’t noticed them. Some years I would see them in the apple tree blossoms, which make a pretty backdrop.

White falling petals from the apple tree blossom almost look like snow but after the storm’s wind and rain, most of the blossoms are off the tree and the petals were washed away or driven down to the soil.

Birds and bees were active in the apple blossoms when the sun peaked out for a while today. Although some blossoms have started to fall already, creating a white layer on the ground but at least it wasn’t snow. Although it looked like it was snowing today with the fuzz from the poplar trees flying thick in the air.

The “pretty” snow looks nice for Christmas but with snow storms after snow storms, that white stuff is looking less appealing especially when I was raking snow off my roof and having to fix the snow blower in the cold. Warmer temperatures and white apple blossoms would be a welcome addition to the scene.
