This barn looks as sad as I feel when the weatherman mentioned more snow. I don’t think this barn can handle anymore snow and I’m not sure other buildings can either. I know I can’t throw the snow up over the piles anymore so waiting for spring to arrive and as the one weatherman said, spring will arrive sometime in 2014.

This cute little barn is starting to feel its age which a few boards weathering away and the windows looking a little sad. It probably heard the cold forecast as the arctic air is making me sad too.

One of my cousins, according to my aunt, reached the AARP age with his birthday yesterday. I think this shed has reached the AARP age several years ago with a sag here and there on the foundation wall.

The gray winter days are sometimes brightened by some colorful objects on the landscape like red barns. And a colorful quilt pattern on a barn is an added bonus.
Quilt barns have been around for hundreds of years and a movement in early 2000s have seen more new quilt blocks appearing on barns again. Now there are Barn Quilt trails, which originated in Ohio, in most states so maybe I will have to go visit each one (starting in the warmer states during the winter).

With wind chills near -60ºF this morning and near -50ºF tonight, these horses might want to hide in the barn because I am definitely hiding indoors as much as I can today.
Out in the Frigid Winter
Red barns against the white snow can look pretty, even if I prefer green grass instead. But someone was brave enough to go out in the cold and add some holiday cheer to the barn. The green, red and white makes a pretty sight.

While not the red and green of Christmas decorations one might be seeing now, the summer time green surrounding the barn with its little bit of red is different than how it looks now with bare trees and white snow covering the ground and roof.

The pleasant farm scene is just a memory until next year as the corn is harvested, the trees are bare and landscape is turning brown soon to be covered in white.

Like people, trees are different and even the same variety of tree will display a range of color development and timing and multiple those factors with different varieties of trees and it paints a rainbow hillside.

Colored leaves and red apples on the trees announce that fall is here, but as soon as it gets here, it seems to slip away too quickly as more leaves are on the ground than on the tree, the days get cloudy and cold, and the apples are harvested before they freeze. And hopefully these apples were picked since the temperature was 23ºF last night, otherwise the birds will have a supply of apples to pick at.
