The flower might be pretty but the spines of the bull thistle are rather sharp. Although found in every state, the bull thistle is non-native and was introduced to the United States in the early 1800s.
The sun may peek out tomorrow to shine on the new thick layer of snow. The woodchuck’s prediction may be way off this year as it doesn’t look like any wildflowers will be blooming any time soon. It is even hard to find some old plants still above the snow depth.
A short walk through the woods yesterday evening didn’t reveal any spring wildflowers, but then there was a thin covering of snow left and the ground just beginning to soften up so the only ‘wildflower’ I found was some bull thistle blossoms past their prime.
