My first camera was introduced in 1978 and used 110 film, but this Eastman No. 1A AUTOGRAPHIC Kodak Junior Camera came out in 1914 and used 116 roll film. The camera is one of the first autographic cameras made by Kodak. A door to a window on the back of the camera allowed the user to write a comment with a stylus onto the paper backing the film, which becomes slightly translucent and when the writing window is exposed to light, the inscription was burned onto the negative.

With the change in technology, today’s digital cameras look a lot different than this Speed Graphic camera which was produced by Graflex from 1912 to 1973. This camera was the standard equipment for many American press photographers until the mid-1960s.  AP photographer Joe Rosenthal’s Pultizer prize image of Marines raising the American flag on Iwo Jima in 1945 was taken with the Speed Graphic camera.
