Two of my cats are celebrating their 5th birthday today and they may be older but they still like to play with boxes as they did when they were a kitten. Boxes provided me many hours of fun as a kid too.

It is always interesting how a new object can disturb critters. If I rearrange the chairs or put a new box on the porch, my super brave cat becomes a coward. And a new mirror located at ground level can cause a snarling fight with the “new” cat.

Another day in the trend of below average temperatures has critters complaining as well as me and this cat is giving me the evil eye like it is my fault that it is cold and that there is snow on the ground.

I’m not sure why any marmot would venture out on a very cold -17 degree morning to look for its shadow to supposedly predict how much longer winter will be. Maybe that is why some groundhogs have bitten the people forcing them out in the cold for the prediction. Even if the groundhog predicts six more weeks of winter, that would be a shorter winter than we normally get. I didn’t see a groundhog out but I did see a mouse running on top of the snow, casing a shadow, so I guess there will a long winter here too unless my cat catches that rodent and cancels the prediction.
