My cat enjoyed the couple of warm days we had since he could go outside and watch for chipmunks. I am amazed at the patience he has for that when he has no patience if I’m late getting his food or opening the door. Sitting around a hole in the ice waiting for a fish to bite or watching a hole waiting for a chipmunk to appear must be a male thing and is the only time males have patience, but then at least they are out of the female’s hair for a while.
There was another beautiful sunset this evening, a pretty pink one, but I was clearing snow when the sun went down so I didn’t get a picture. And since it took a long time to clear the snow, I was chilled to the bones when I came inside but with the current high price of propane right now, I didn’t turn the heat up. I guess my cats don’t think too much of a colder house as apparently the only warm place for them is in the kitchen sink right after I washed the dishes. Guess the hot water warmed a spot for my boy for a few minutes anyway!
As I continue the ‘old’ theme week, the subject is a birthday girl who is six years old today. Now most would not consider six as being old for a cat but it is for Miss Tippy since this ‘nice’ orphan kitty that I rescued when a few days old gives me presents in the sink when she is unhappy with me. And the ‘presents’ is poop so she is running out of her nine days and may lose her home comforts as I lose my patience.
Birthday Kitty
This naughty cat was the subject of children book I wrote a year ago so that is her only saving grace.
Like the donkey, this cat doesn’t seem overly thrilled to hear about about snow storm but maybe with all the eyes watching it, the storm will turn tail and take a different path.
(Well the cat didn’t stare down the storm as the freezing rain just started!)
Today is National Freedom Day, an observance in the United States that honors the signing of a resolution that proposed the 13th amendment of the nation’s constitution on February 1, 1865. Abraham Lincoln, who was the president at the time, signed the resolution to outlaw slavery. The Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, ratified on December 18, 1865, outlaws slavery and involuntary servitude.
But apparently that amendment does not apply to people who have cats, since humans are cats slaves! And they can be rather demanding and forcing us into involuntary servitude if you don’t want to get clawed up.
It is hard to work on the computer when the ‘master’ is around, blocking my view to the monitor or sitting on the mouse. Apparently Tippy wanted to make sure I was editing a picture of herself to be in the next children’s book. She will be rather disappointed when she finds out that she is not the star in the next book!
Even though it was cloudy yesterday, the temperature warmed up enough that the chipmunks came out of hibernation which made my cat very happy. It is the only time he has any patience. He can sit at the chipmunk hole for hours waiting for the critter to poke his head back up which he had to do yesterday since I scared the chipmunk down his hole.
I wouldn’t mind being a chipmunk who sleeps most the winter and just wakes up to eat and play on the warm days, but a cat staring down the hole might be a good reason not to be chipmunk.
Yesterday and today’s chipmunk hunt didn’t have the nice yellow flowers though and will be a while before they bloom again.
