At the beginning of the 20th century, before indoor plumbing became more common, a weekly Saturday night bath had become common custom for most of the population. A tub would be filled by carrying buckets of heated water and the bath water was shared by all family members so the first in line had the cleanest water.

The mother cow doesn’t have to carry water so she can give her calf a cleaning on the go as she licks the calf clean with her tongue.

It appears like this cow is flying out on the clouds as it must heard about the cold temperatures coming so I bet it is heading south.

A weather vane is an instrument for showing the direction of the wind. The first “true weathervane” is often thought to be a bronze structure that was erected atop the Tower of the Winds in Athens in 48 B.C. by Greek astronomer Andronicus. Since that time, there has been various designs and shapes of the weather vanes.

The Hereford cow is probably wishing it was a sunny, warm fall day, surrounded by yellow and red leaves, instead of damp, grey day like today.

Sometimes it is easy to overlook how tall some of the old mills were until you see a person or critter near one, but at least the Aermotor had a tilting tower so that the owners didn’t have to climb the tower every few days to oil the gearbox. The tilting tower models disappeared once the enclosed gearboxes were invented and only needed oiling once a year (and hopefully not on a winter day).
