Ten years ago, these flowers were blooming for the first day of spring. There is no hint of leaves poking up through the ground where the snow recently melted so no Snow Glories to signal the start of spring this year.
Today was another cloudy winter day below freezing and it would be nice to see a little more color outside. These bright, cheery flowers were taken on July 17 and six months later, just the brown seed heads remain poking up through the snow.
There was only a brief peek of blue sky today and the patches of blue were not very big either on a rather cloudy day. The pieces of blue sky was easy to overlook just like these tiny blossoms of the Forget-me-not plant.
A few late hardy flowers, like these butter-and-eggs, have survived the frozen night temperatures, but they were getting hit with more snowflakes today and might get covered in snow tomorrow night.
There are a few flowers left to see, even as a few more snowflakes floated by again today. The hardy white daisies, the yellow of the butter & eggs and the purple asters add a little yet as the season moves towards winter. And the insects are making use of those late blossoms.
