The bleeding hearts lasted most of May but have mostly faded now that June has arrived. Other flowers were enjoying the rare sunshine and warm temperatures.
Bleeding Hearts
Although this clump of blue color was found in my woods, it is not a wildflower, but another ‘escapee’ which used to be planted near my house. None exist by the house now, but a few Snow Glories are scattered around the lawn too. They must be celebrating Emancipation Day now that they free from the original bed. The Emancipation Day celebrated in Washington DC marks the anniversary of the signing of the Compensated Emancipation Act, which president Abraham Lincoln signed on April 16, 1862. It is annually held on April 16 but the holiday this year is observed on today instead.
Freed Snow Glories
Things in nature is often fleeting, like seeing a deer for the few seconds before it disappears into the woods or the tree frog I just saw leaping onto a branch, so if you see something looking pretty, you better grab the camera and not plan to get it later. The peonies were in full bloom yesterday morning and this morning after the rain, the ground is covered in pink and the remaining blossoms look tattered and shaggy.
