I remember as a kid, drawing large circles using a nail, string and pencil. But if you didn’t hold the pencil straight, the circle may not have been perfect. Mother Nature has a bent stem of grass creating a circle when the wind blows.
White clouds and green grass makes a better scene than white clouds over white snow. And with more snow coming this weekend, it may be a while before any grass starts again.
The grass in the ditches have grown tall in the hot and wet summer, which help hide the deer and other critters waiting to run out in front the of car, but the grass stems look pretty in the rays of the setting sun.
I think I might have to move to the southern hemisphere so that new year starts on a warmer note as I rather have the new year blow the grass and summer clouds than blowing snow and cold temperatures. At least it was a sunny day to ring in 2018.
There was no green grass for the cats to explore today on their Sunday walk since in a day the look changed overnight to white with the lawn is under a coat of the cold snow.
As kids, we would pick this grass and try to tickle each other with it (and that’s reason we always called it tickle grass). And while it’s pretty to look at, especially a full field waving in the wind, this foxtail barley grass is not a grass farmers and ranchers want to see in their pastures and fields. Foxtail barley grass has sharply-barbed awns that can cause sores at the nose, eyes, and mouth of livestock.
This is actually the start of volume three of the picture of the day and I hope you enjoy the pictures. Many of the pictures which appear here in the picture of the day will be available in different size prints, note cards and gallery canvas wraps.
I enjoy taking nature and scenery pictures and I tend to take a lot of sunsets so I figured a sunset picture would be a good photo to start this volume. I had taken a grass picture during a sunset on my old camera years ago and I have been waiting for the conditions to replicate again so I could take one on a higher resolution camera but so far I haven’t matched the original old photograph and this image is the closest that I have achieved to the other image.
