Meteorological spring may have started on March 1, but winter is not releasing its hold yet as it caused a mixed of rain, snow and ice today and with a threat of a lot of snow tomorrow.
Iced Up Again
The sun was out bright today but sunny days in the winter can be very deceiving as they normally mean cold days. Even the sun wasn’t strong enough to melt the ice off the tree limbs in the below freezing temperatures. Some of the limbs sparkled in the sunlight while others rattled in the breeze. Birds would have trouble eating this ice crusted berries.
Icy Berries
I haven’t been very fond of the ice which have covered my driveway this past week, but people do flock to see ice caves and other ice formations as they hike miles over frozen Lake Superior. But with the January thaw, there is open water by the sea caves so no walking out there to see the ice formations right now.
Frozen Falls
Temperatures slightly above freezing yesterday afternoon melted the ice that fell earlier in the day which was a good thing with the strong winds making the tree branches rattle. So winter days aren’t so lucky when the heavy ice break limbs and power lines. I just don’t know if ice counted as snow for the robin tail for spring to finally come.
