With school starting soon for some students and the long holiday approaching, some people are trying to get the last vacation in before the unofficial end of summer. And some vacation activities may include water adventures on the lakes, like on Lake Superior near Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore to view different rock formations and waterfalls..

This morning in the state, some woke to storms and for others the sunrise tried to poke out between the clouds as the rain retreated.

Many areas of northern Wisconsin are dealing with a large number of down trees from the recent storms, but at least this view of the lake still has its trees from a morning sunrise.

On another hot summer day, a dip in a lake may help to cool down, especially in Lake Superior where the water temperature is 62 degrees, which is warmer than the thirties this spring.

Sometimes after a rain storm, if the sun peeks out while there is still some rain and mist in the air, a patch of color in the form of a rainbow can be spotted. Although this double rainbow appears chopped off by the storm clouds.

This is a nice peaceful beach, but 75 years ago, different beaches were not a tranquil when some 156,000 Allied troops had landed on Normandy’s beaches to attack the German forces on D-Day. Instead of pretty colors reflecting on the sand from a sunset, the D-Day beach landings were bloody as the first waves of landing forces suffering terrible losses.

After 240 days, the temperature finally reached eighty degrees again and you might think it would be a great day to go swimming in the lake without waves. But it would be a chilly dip in Lake Superior as the water temperature near this beach is only 37 degrees.

When I was walking along the shore of Lake Superior today, I thought I had found a unique white rock embedded in the red layers. But on closer inspection, the rock which I couldn’t reach the top of, wasn’t a rock but snow which still hasn’t melted yet even though it is the middle of May on a seventy degree day.

As the daylight is increasing and the temperatures are slowly warming up, the recent snow near Lake Superior has melted and the lake shore hasn’t been covered in ice blocks for a while now so the driftwood is exposed again on the beach.
