On a nice summer Saturday afternoon, I imagine there are many water activities happening, including some sailing on Lake Superior between Bayfield and Madeline Island.
The higher elevation gives you a different view of Lake Superior than when at the water level at the beach, but you would not want to wander much farther as there is a very sharp cliff just a few yards away.
After a display of aurora borealis during the night, some clouds rolled in during the pre-dawn hours to allow a colorful sunrise over Lake Superior. The green reflected on the water from the northern lights was replaced by pink when morning arrived.
Outdoor activities are a common occurrence on a long holiday weekend, including sailing. And this sailboat was out for an adventure around the Apostle Islands in Lake Superior.
Although a bit on the chilly side to wade in the Lake Superior water, the beach draws people for an afternoon of fun in the sun on the sand on this holiday weekend.
An empty beach midweek, except for the seagulls that took to flight, probably had more visitors this holiday weekend to enjoy some fishing and beachcombing where the Brule River meets Lake Superior.
Next weekend, the holiday vacationers may head to the beach, but today with the temperatures in the 50s and Lake Superior water temp at 39, the beaches are not crowded and there are not too many brave souls taking a swim in the lake.
If the forecast is accurate for the coming week, maybe today will be the last day where the high remains below freezing, although it will be still freezing overnight.
