The milkweed pods are mostly empty but a few still had a few seeds which hasn’t flown yet, although it would be hard to spot the white seed floss hairs that land on the snow.

Instead of snowflakes, I rather see the white from the milkweed seeds flying through the air, although most of the pods right now are entry and only a few have any seeds left to take flight.

The other day there was a dusting of snow and the strong winds swirled the snowflakes around. The winds also caused some other white to float on the breeze when some late milkweed pods released their seeds with white hairy parachutes.

A light scattering of snowflakes fell today. Summertime dandelion seeds or autumn milkweed pod seeds flying through the air would be a warmer event to enjoy.

I hope this is the white I see flying tomorrow and not snowflakes. The release of the seeds from the milkweed pods is another sign that winter is coming as it will be a while before the milkweed blossoms and green pods return (as well as the monarch butterflies).

The monarchs are gathering as they prepare to head south while their favorite food, the milkweed, is turning brown as the seeds begin taking their own flight in the wind.

The sun finally made an appearance although the temperatures are still below the average but at least it feels better than the gray days. There isn’t many flowers remaining after a string of below freezing nights and the wind have left very few milkweed pod with seeds since most have taken flight.

The milkweed pods seem to be behind this year, just like the crops, and they haven’t release their seeds yet and with the frost, rain and snow, they aren’t flying too well.
