Today is the start of meteorological winter, which is the three coldest months of the year. And with the additional snow today, it definitely looks like a white winter.
Start of Winter
I looked like the Abominable Snowman when I came in from clearing the snow from the driveway for the second day in a row. Between the snow which was still falling and the snow blowing around, I was covered in that white stuff from head to toe. And when the wind picked up, the snow from the upper boughs crashed down creating an avalanche.
More Winter White
A change definitely arrived overnight, from 57 yesterday afternoon to -3 wind chill this morning plus a icy white coating covering the landscape. Although not a lot of snow, the switch from rain to snow also brought a time of ice too, so a lot of branches were coated and hanging lower to the ground.
Hanging Even Lower
The day started below freezing but at least the sun came out for those planting trees this Arbor Day. But those new little trees will take a while to reach high into the sky. I actually un-planted a bitternut tree (or at least a nut) when I was planting my flowers and discovered the nut that they chipmunks had buried in my flower pot.
