I spotted the first ducks back this morning, but as three of them headed towards my pond, they waved off the approach at the last minute when they noticed the pond was frozen over yet. A pair of geese did have a tiny patch of open water just enough for both of them float side by side but not much room to do anything else. Maybe tomorrow some more of the ice will melt and hopefully the ducks will return to my pond.

With the temperature dropping to -21 overnight, it sure has me wishing for a nice summer day down at the pond watching fluffy clouds floating by, dragonflies darting about, bees landing on the flowers and listening to frog croaking.

Last night five deer were playing on the ice at my pond but at least the new snow froze on the day’s earlier melting snow preventing the ice from being very slippery so the deer didn’t fall on the ice like they did last winter.

The trees are not hiding much of the sunset now that the strong gusts of wind yesterday seemed to rip any remaining leaves off the limbs and deposited some of the fallen leaves into my pond.

For a few brief minutes, the sky was colorful this morning and I wonder what the ducks thought when their water turned pink.

I just couldn’t make myself take a picture of the “pretty snow” this morning as I’m tired of that white stuff and want spring to arrive. And I think the ducks in my pond would prefer this summer scene with the white in the clouds instead of the white snow on the ground by the pond this morning.

Last year at this time of year, my pond was filled with ducks and geese. But the two pair of geese and my lone duck have vanished for days since the pond has frozen over solid again so no open water. And the snow today created a white layer on the surface. Maybe tomorrow, if the sun comes out, it will melt a hole back in the ice again.

Since today finally was above freezing, I took a walk down around my pond looking at all the critter tracks. There was a variety of tracks but no bear tracks and the pond that the bear went swimming in six months ago is now frozen.

The string of nights with temperatures in the 20s has formed an ice layer on my pond, but there was a small patch of open water for the morning’s sunrise to leave a pink reflection.

Yellow rocket is considered to be a weed which is in the mustard family and some are growing on the edge of my pond that I didn’t get pulled earlier this spring.
