While I haven’t seen many blossoms for the first day for spring, the pussy willows are starting to open in the road ditches.

The few days with way above average temperatures caused many plants to sprout, open up or leaf out. The pussy willows went from soft catkins to them having pollen-bearing stamens the next day.

It is time the time of year to look for pussy willows poking out as spring approaches. They name comes from those soft silver tufts which resembles tiny cats’ paws.

The birds were singing in today’s sunshine as few butterflies floated by and this evening the pond is full of song from the spring peepers giving hope that maybe spring is finally here. And the road ditches looked a little furry too with the pussy willows blooming and their resemblance to tiny cat paws is a reminder to the new batches of kittens born this spring too.
