The leprechauns would have been doing unplanned Irish jig on my cement as it was covered in ice this morning. It wasn’t a sunny, green day with lots of shamrocks to be found even though the ice melted after a while. Moss seems to be the only green outside right now and it can make a pretty green scene where it grows in the mist of a waterfall.

Along a lake shore there are sometimes unique rock formations that stand out and where given names centuries ago.  Miners Castle is one of the named points of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore on Lake Superior but there are other interesting rocks which get ignored as people walk the trail to view the ‘named’ rock formation. But this ‘little’ rock, which is taller than I am, caught my eye and should get a name too!

Landscapes can change in a very short distance and it is interesting how one beach may be all sand and around the bend it is solid rocks or small rocks. And if there are small rocks on the beach, there has to be at least one “pretty” rock that hops into your pocket although sometime that pretty one may be elusive when a wave takes it out of your reach.

The frog were correct, spring is here or at least the snow has finally melted off the lawn. And it is fitting that the snow left so you can see the ‘earth’ again for Earth Day.

Earth Day began in 1970, with a federal proclamation from U.S. Sen. Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin, when 20 million people across the United States (one in ten) rallied for increased protection of the environment.

Nelson recounted in an essay shortly before he died in July 2005 at 89. “The American people finally had a forum to express its concern about what was happening to the land, rivers, lakes, and air—and they did so with spectacular exuberance.”
