Some of the birds are complaining that I haven’t cleaned the snow off the bird feeder when they do adventure out from under the snow laden pine branches but it is still snowing so it will get reburied in that cold white stuff.
First Snow
Mother Nature played an April Fools Day joke this morning as the April showers to bring May flowers was a snow shower instead of rain and the colder temperatures will freeze any flowers trying to emerge. At least sun has come out and is melting the coating of snow but it wasn’t nice to watch the falling snow to start the day.
Nature’s April Fools Day Joke
It is not often for my small pond to have open water when there is a foot of snow on the ground, but the spring snow storm makes it look more like winter again than spring. Hopefully the snow will melt quickly as there was some bluebirds checking out some of the birdhouses in the snow today and the geese stayed mainly in the water instead of wading through the snow.
Springtime Snow at the Pond
St. Patty’s Day must have sucked all the green up yesterday and didn’t leave any left for today as it was a white morning with the new snowfall overnight. And the robins have been snowed more than the three times needed for spring to come so nature needs a counting lesson as I want green and not white.
March Snow
The snowflakes falling this morning were huge and too bad they weren’t cotton candy instead of cold snow. A flake would cover my camera lens so I had to try to protect the camera while out in the snow squall. The little patch grass the robin was hanging around is now covered but at least it snowed on the robin’s tail so only twice more until spring comes.
Huge Snowflakes
Yesterday I mentioned that “the trees look ‘pretty’ but it is not so pretty to shovel!” and someone commented that I shouldn’t shovel the trees then. But with the heavy snow overnight, I think the trees would like to be shoveled as their branches are hanging low to the ground under the weight of the snow. Everything looked black and white this morning, like all the color was washed out, as even the pine trees didn’t look green and the sky was white too.
Lots of White
After a snowfall, you notice evidence by way of tracks, just how many critters are visiting your yard. The ‘freeways’ in the snow can be found leading to the bird feeder from the trees as the squirrels attempt to steal seeds. While most of the squirrel tracks go from one tree base to another, the rabbit tracks head towards the thicker underbrush. Varying sizes of bird tracks can be found in the snow under the feeder as they look for fallen seeds. The tiny mouse tracks where running around the outside garage walls, looking for a way inside to stay warm or to get away from the fox who wanders through the yard too. This morning, fresh deer tracks led right up to the house to graze on my shrubs next to the porch. So the “pretty” snow doesn’t stay new looking very long before it turns into a maze of animals trails.
