The poor little Spring Beauties haven’t open much as they keep closing up on the cloudy and rainy days. Their small size doesn’t flash a lot of color and even less when they are not fully open. Next week it is supposed to be sunny so maybe if they haven’t gone to seed yet, they can enjoy some sunshine.

There was very few wildflowers to pick to put in a May Day basket this year as the Bloodroots leaves are just poking out but there is no hint of the Spring Beauties this spring yet.

The very warm sunny day had the wildflowers opening up to the sunshine on this May Day, even if May baskets filled with flowers is not celebrated like it was in the past.
May Day Flowers
April showers are bringing April flowers. In just a couple of rainy days, both the bloodroots and spring beauties have opened a few blossoms. The spring beauties are tiny but bring a big sign of spring.
Spring Beauties Signal Spring
May Day was a holiday celebrated more in the past centuries, with May baskets and the May pole dancing. But at least there are finally some flowers blooming that could have been used to fill a May basket if it was a tiny basket since many of the early blossoms are tiny like these Spring Beauties.

Today was a nice spring day, but I didn’t have time for a walk in the woods to hunt for wildflowers as I still a lot of limbs that came down over the long winter that needed to be picked up off my lawn. I did spot some Spring Beauties leaves but no blossoms yet so will have to hunt for blooms in upcoming days.

The rain later after the snow yesterday did not magically produce spring flowers yet, not when the snow depth only shrank a little from the rain. So it will probably be another 6 weeks before any Spring Beauties are in bloom around here.
No Spring Beauties Yet
The little five pointed Spring Beauties won’t open fully unless in bright sunshine and these were just starting to open up when the clouds lessened and let the sun shine through.
Spring Beauties in Springtime
