Just an hour south of my place on Sunday had very little snow and some of the white seen on the water was trumpeter swans, but now those areas also have a new coating of snow too.

The rain later after the snow yesterday did not magically produce spring flowers yet, not when the snow depth only shrank a little from the rain. So it will probably be another 6 weeks before any Spring Beauties are in bloom around here.

I was watching the snow blowing across drift ridges that looked like mountain tops. I would prefer seeing white from apple blossoms instead of seeing more snow in March but it will be another two months before the apple trees are covered with blossoms instead of snowflakes.

When the dandelions lose their yellow smiles, the field may turn white as the seeds start floating away but I rather see the dandelion seeds flying in the air than the snowflakes that fell this afternoon.

The sun was finally shining today, but the hoarfrost had already melted the previous day so it only shone on the snow and definitely not shining on green grass covered in yellow dandelions.

A walk on my trails this afternoon, when the temperature reached 55, felt like an early spring day except the remaining leaves on the apple trees were brown instead of green and there was no white blossoms or yellow dandelions growing in green grass.

Most of the apple blossoms have fallen off the trees with the wind and the lilacs have been tattered by rain but for a few days they flashed their colors in the sunshine.

The sun peeked out for a few minutes this evening after a long rainy spell. Many of the apple blossoms have fallen to the ground from the driving rain and wind but there are a few blossoms left to catch the fleeting sun.

The calendar might say it is spring, but it is more of a gray period instead with another cloudy day and the brownish landscape which has emerged from the snow. A field of dandelions would look pretty about now, even if people don’t like them, but bees love them. I like the yellow stage, it is the white seed releasing event that I don’t care for.
