The snow ended overnight and by morning it had clear with the temperature below zero again as the glow from the sun reflected on the new layer of snow. And with the very cold crisp air, when the sun rose a little higher, sun dogs appeared around the sun.
Cold Sun Glow
The sun was out for a short time this morning before it clouded up and starting snowing again. So the poor trees will get an additional layer of that white stuff on their limbs again.
Before More Snow
The skies finally cleared and the sun shone down on the white landscape. The wind and sun caused some of the snow to come off the higher branches. But the clear skies also ushered in some below zero temperatures too.
Blue and White and Cold
The trees (and people’s backs) did not get a break as more snow fell again overnight through today which added more of that white stuff on the tree limbs and on the surfaces that need to be shoveled again.
More White Stuff Again
The calendar might say that it isn’t officially winter yet, but the white scene this morning definitely puts an end to autumn. The poor pine trees were hanging limp with all the heavy wet snow and even the other trees were covered making it a very white landscape today.
Very White Day
The temperature at the nearest airport early this morning was -5, but my thermometers said it stayed above zero at least. But the trees were coated in frost, at least until the sun melted the white stuff off the limbs.
A Frosty View
The sun did peek out this afternoon but not enough to get the temperature above freezing so no snow melted and the ground is covered with a lot more white than from this fallen trees.
Fallen White
While the pine trees limbs waved more to dislodge the snow, some remained on the tree branches for a few extra days before melting. If there was any snow left on the limbs, the predicted winds tonight probably would blow it off.

The dawning of the new day revealed another fresh coat of snow which sparkled in the rising sun. But with all the critters that seem to be hanging around my house, the snow will soon have tracks messing up the pretty layer of snow.
A New Snow Layer
It was a rather chilly start of the day with overnight temperatures dropping down to -22 degrees. And although the sun was out, the day just barely reached zero for an afternoon hike in the snow.
