There are a few hardy violas braving the freezing temperatures. This morning they only had some leaves falling on them but by afternoon those cold snowflakes were falling again.
Even if a flower managed to jump up through the frozen ground and snow, it would freeze rather stiff this sunny morning since it was -18ºF so no pretty flowers to look at for a while yet like these Viola tricolors, also called Jack-jump-up-and-kiss-me or Johnny jump ups.
The other day my mom was going through the seed catalog ordering her vegetables seeds and glancing at the flowers. The catalog gives a small reminder that spring will come someday again, but it is hard to picture when seeing a sea of white day after day.
