The winter day stayed below freezing today, but it still was 40 degrees warmer than nine years ago when I ventured out on to Lake Superior ice to visit the ice caves on a rather cold day.

Punxsutawney Phil and Sun Prairie’s Jimmy the Groundhog predicted six more weeks of winter, but if winter only lasted six more weeks, that would be an early spring for here. It was too cold for any of my furry rodents to poke their heads out of their winter dens, but they wouldn’t have seen their shadow at sunrise, but the dozen turkeys crossing the road at noon did see their shadows so it might be a really long winter.

Another night of freezing fog added another layer of frost on the trees as the day remained cloudy again. With more cloudy days in the forecast, the skies might not clear enough for me to see the comet passing by that last visited about 50,000 years ago.

When exploring the ice formations, it was interesting to see so many different colors of ice especially the light blue ice falls. Course I was a little blue when my garage door was frozen down in ice and it took me a while to get the door open this morning.
