There was a new light coating of snow overnight, but at least the sun came out later in the morning to help melt the white stuff off the trees limbs again.

The above freezing temperature allowed some melting of snow, but like this waterfall, the amount was a little trickle and falling from my roof. It will take a warmer day to get more flow.

Although I haven’t seen that the ice road between Bayfield and Madeline Island is officially open, I have noticed on the webcam, a number of vehicles driving across the ice. The 1.9 mile ice road is an extension of County Highway H during most winters, which is lined by Christmas trees and crosses Lake Superior. It is a different feeling traveling across the ice road listening to the cracking of the ice.

Instead of frost falling today, snowflakes were dropping from the sky. And many of the waterfalls in the area are frozen and not flowing, but I am looking forward to the spring melt when they start falling again.

The frost overnight didn’t last long with the morning sun and the wind helped blow the frost off the tree branches.

The new coating of snow revealed critters tracks all over the yard. The deer apparently were having a party up and down the driveway. The birds and squirrels were leaving tracks heading for the bird feeder.

More light snow flurries prevented seeing blue skies today and the flakes that fell means I get to shovel snow in the morning again.

The clouds prevented the day from feeling like it was above zero and the snow was another unwelcomed event. Instead of white snowflakes, I wouldn’t mind white dandelion seeds flying through the air as that would mean warmer conditions.

The chickadees sounded a bit more cheerful today once the temperature finally made it above zero, but they weren’t too happy when I interrupted their seed feeder time.

Red may be one of the common colors for barns, but during this last cold week the cows probably didn’t care what the barn color was as much as whether it was warm inside. The red color looks good against the white snow, but to me the red looks even better when the fields are green.
