With some snow pellets swirling around the sky today and the strong winds, the first day of November felt more like the end of month. Critters might appreciate a warm, cozy barn to stay out of the elements.
Even in the gray day, the fallen leaves looked a little brighter from a coating of rain. This poor leaf looked like someone was creating paint samples on it.
Many of the summer birds have left a while ago, so the year-round birds are more noticeable again, like this downy woodpecker enjoying the autumn day as it searches for food.
While most of the state, especially the northern counties, are past the autumnpeak color, some southern counties have their normal fall peak the fourth week of October.
The wind and the clouds made the day feel colder for outdoor activities, but at least no snow yet so still time to explore some of the waterfalls around the state.
Although the day was cooler than it has been, the closer to normal temperatures still allowed some great hiking weather to explore the parks including this waterfall on the Amnicon River with the covered bridge.
