The new snow was blowing around in the 50 mph plus winds this afternoon causing white-outs. And with another wind chill advisory for tonight, I rather see white clouds racing across the sky on a summer day than blowing snow.

I saw a squirrel dashing across the yard with something white in its mouth. I thought maybe the squirrel broke into my house and stole a big marshmallow, but instead it swipe one of the apples I had put out for the deer and he had already eaten the peeling off. He kept turning the apple as it took another mouthful keeping the apple fairly round.

Nestled among the big red barns is a cute little red barn and it would be interesting to peek inside it. At least it has a stove pipe chimney so likely it has some heat inside on a cold winter day.

It was five years ago when I had an unexpected visitor show up in my house. A tree frog had hitched a ride in one of my flower pots that I brought in the house in late fall but I didn’t notice my new roommate until months later.
And since it was still winter outside and he would be unable to burrow in for the winter, he remained in my house for several months until springtime. He seemed rather comfortable in his new home (even if in a tub and not my whole house). But he had swimming pool and a mossy green nest plus a lot of flies that I captured and turned loose in his covered tub for ready snacks.
Even when I turned him loose in the spring, he returned to his home that I left on the porch for several days before he wandered back into his normal environment, probably since I stopped catching flies for him.

There were flower shortages and price increases because of the Valentine’s Day demand, but I rather have chocolates anyway. It will be several months before my bleeding heart will be in blossom so maybe they should moved Valentine’s Day to a warmer month when you could pick dandelions for your loved one.

A warm coat, even if a bit shaggy, was needed on another very chilly day and this critter looks as forlorn and disgusted about more cold winter days as I do.

Sometimes when snowflakes fall softly from the skies, they can lay gently on other snowflakes which allows their unique crystal shapes to be seen. But the snow this morning was compacted by the freezing rain so individual flakes were hard to find.

The falling and blowing snow this evening made it hard to see the road. Even a cloudy day on a beach listening to white waves rolling in is better than listen the snow pelleting my vehicle.

The birds were enjoying an above freezing morning as they picked at the Black-eyed Susan dried flower heads eating seeds. The flower stems bent under the weight of the birds as the junco, goldfinch and redpoll consumed their breakfast.
